Derby County held Brentford to a goalless draw last night and many fans have heaped praise on teenage debutant Kornell McDonald.

The 19-year-old came off the bench to replace the injured Curtis Davies after 65 minutes against a Bees side with some frankly frightening attacking players.

Ivan Toney has made a strong start to life in the Championship, scoring 14 times in 17 games, while Josh Dasilva, Emiliano Marcondes, and Bryan Mbeumo combined for 19 goals and seven assists last term.

McDonald helped the Rams to keep those players, and a string of other dangerous weapons, out last night as Wayne Rooney's men earned a draw that has seen them move to within one point of safety.

The teenager only signed professional terms with the East Midlands club this summer but has made a strong start to the season with the U23s.

Naturally an attack-minded right-back, McDonald impressed against Brentford last night though there were some natural moments of adjustment.

As his post on social media shows, the player is hoping for more opportunities after his first taste of senior football.

Rooney will feel that his faith in the defender was repaid in last night's display and the Derby academy graduate certainly seems to have won other parts of the Pride Park faithful.
