Jack Colback hailed James Garner's performance as "fantastic" after making his debut against Coventry City in midweek.

Garner joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Manchester United last weekend, having spent the first half of the season on loan at Watford.

The midfielder made his first appearance for the Reds in midweek, producing a superb performance against Coventry at St. Andrew's.

Garner looked tidy on the ball, recycled possession well, and helped Forest assert their dominance on the game from the middle of the park.

Garner earned rave reviews from Forest fans, and they will be hoping for more to come from him between now and the end of the campaign.

Jack Colback, who came on as a substitute to partner Garner on Tuesday night, has hailed the 19-year-old's performance as "fantastic" against Coventry.

Speaking to the official website, Colback said: "I thought James Garner's debut on Tuesday night was fantastic.

"He was moving the ball around really well and spraying some good passes around the pitch so it was a strong performance but when you consider he has joined from Manchester United, you know he'll have that quality.

"I'm not someone who envies other people being in the side so if James is playing well and the team is winning them I'm very happy."

Garner will be hoping to impress further, as Forest take on Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park this afternoon.

The Verdict

Forest have been missing a player like Garner since Ben Watson. I know it's only been one game, but the 19-year-old really impressed in midweek.

It's clear that he is good on the ball having come through the ranks at Manchester United, but he also looks strong off the ball too.

Garner is only young and a taste of Championship football will do him the world of good this season, and if Tuesday night's performance is anything to go by, then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a player on his hands.
