Charlton Athletic midfielder Josh Cullen is in a confident mood after seeing his current side storm through the final matches of the season.

The Addicks are assured a play-off spot and almost did enough to trouble the top two in the division. They've been on an incredible run of one defeat in 14 matches, including six wins in seven.

Momentum is certainly behind Lee Bowyer's side and Cullen, on loan from West Ham, was bullish when asked if he had any preference in their semi-final opponents.

“Nah, no preference,” Cullen told News Shopper. “When it comes to the playoffs it's two games and whoever is going to be the best team over the two games.

“We're confident that we can be the best team whoever we play against. Whoever we get then bring them on.”

Bowyer's side wrap up their season at home to Rochdale this weekend and if other sides stay true to their form, it's likely to be Sunderland in the semi-finals.

They've played Jack Ross' side twice in the league, losing narrowly on the opening day and holding them to a draw at the Valley in January. Portsmouth are another possible opponent, a side they've beaten home and away in the league this season.

The Verdict

Nobody will want to face Charlton. Putting that defeat at Oxford aside, they've been in tremendous form and offer a substantial threat to any side looking to push on to Wembley.

Whether they have enough quality to defeat Sunderland, or indeed whichever of the current set of clubs finish fourth, is another question entirely.
