Fans vent fury after rapist Ched Evans is given second chance

Football fans have vented their fury after convicted rapist Ched Evans is set to be reinstated by Sheffield United.

Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough and co-chairman Kevin McCabe travelled to the prison where Evans is housed, and invited the Welsh international back to training ahead of his October release.

The 25-year-old would return to Bramall lane having served two-and-a-half years in prison for raping a 19-year-old woman.

The Sheffield club are to assess and monitor Evans’ fitness before offering him a three-year deal at he club.

n messageboard Bladesway, one fan said: “I wouldn’t like my club to be taking on a former convicted rapist.”

Another supporter wrote to the local paper: “Ched Evans should not be allowed back to Bramall Lane.

“What about the female fans, how are they going to feel?”

Ched Evans signed for Sheffield United in 2009 but was released following his conviction of rape in 2012.
