Aston Villa will be looking for a slightly more straight-forward game against Brentford tonight compared to their Friday night clash with Sheffield United last week.

The Blades threw away a 3-0 win against the Villans to yield a 3-3 draw and Dean Smith's men have shown once again they are able to fight to the end and nick results.

Speaking of going to the wire, the Birmingham Mail has revealed how Leroy Fer was on the brink of signing for Villa, until injury concerns began to arise.

Indeed, Villa had fears over the condition of a hamstring and moved onto different targets during Fer's medical - leaving him to head back to Swansea on Deadline Day.

The midfielder, then, may well be feeling a little rejected right now but will have the resolve to prove himself for the Welsh side once back in the side.

For sure, it can't be nice to be heading to a new team for the plug to only be pulled thanks to an injury and Fer's head will take a bit of time to get sorted.

However, he has remained a professional throughout his time at Swansea - especially since going down - and he'll be ready to try and finish the season strongly under Graham Potter.

Do that, and who knows what the summer might bring.
