Matt Phillips’ agent vowed to give Wanderers “the hardest time you’ve ever had” in a series of heated voicemails to Wycombe Chairman Don Woodward after he missed out on money he claimed he was owed by the club, an FA commission has revealed.
The FA panel ruled the evidence submitted by Smith was “inconsistent and contradictory” and that Smith himself was “an unconvincing and unreliable witness.”
The Bucks Free Press have stated in an online article published 3rd June that Smith had an agreement with Wycombe’s previous owner Steve Hayes that if Matt Phillips was ever sold from Blackpool that he would receive a cut.
Wycombe under their current trust-run management sold on any entitlement for £200,000 when Phillips moved to QPR in 2013’s January transfer window for £6,000,000. Wycombe were reportedly keen for the settlement to happen rather than risk him not being sold and potentially not receiving any money as his contract was due to expire.
