Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United will have to break their club-record fee if they wish to sign Boca Juniors midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to reports from Uruguayan media outlet Ovacion.

The 23-year old was an impressive performer for Uruguay at the World Cup and played an integral part in helping the South American side to an impressive quarter-final finish.

Reports had emerged claiming that Leeds, as well as the likes of Sampdoria and Fiorentina are reportedly interested in signing the tenacious midfielder, who has been hugely impressive for Argentinean side Boca Juniors this term.

But reports from Nandez' home country of Uruguay claim that the Whites will have to activate Nandez' release clause of £26million if they wish to lure him to Elland Road.

This would subsequently break their club-record fee of £18million, which they paid for Rio Ferdinand who they signed from West Ham United in 2000.

Marcelo Bielsa's men currently sit 3rd in the Sky Bet Championship table, one point off the automatic promotion spots with just eight games of the season left to play.

The Verdict

This would certainly raise some eyebrows at Elland Road, and it's a signing that would certainly get the whole of Yorkshire talking.

Nandez really impressed me at the World Cup in Russia, and you can tell that he is a player who would certainly fit into Bielsa's team.

Leeds fans will be praying that they find themselves playing in the Premier League next term, as this signing would light up the top-flight.
