Jordan Pickford’s departure from the Stadium of Light was inevitable this summer, after the 23-year old goalkeeper impressed in the Premier League last season, despite Sunderland suffering relegation back into the Sky Bet Championship.

Everton and Ronald Koeman have been linked with Pickford throughout the summer, and have finally matched Sunderland’s £30m valuation, having initially had a much lower offer rejected.

A £30m transfer-fee will see Pickford become the most expensive British goalkeeper ever, and the third most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football, following Ederson’s move to Manchester City (£35m) and Gianluigi Buffon’s move to Juventus (£32.6m).

Pickford is currently away with the England under-21 squad, and has earned a call-up to the senior side in the last 12-months, despite only making 24 top-flight appearances in his career.
