Championship outfit Middlesbrough took another step towards securing their place in the play-offs as they claimed an impressive 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Riverside Stadium yesterday afternoon.
Boro were gifted their opener in the 17th minute when Ryan Yates passed the ball into his own net under pressure from the Teesside outfit’s press, a Boxing Day present Chris Wilder’s side gladly accepted as they were able to assert their dominance and retain their lead going into the interval.
They doubled their advantage with just over 20 minutes to go, with loanee Andraz Sporar finding himself in the right place at the right time to slot the ball home and all but seal the three points after a strong start to the second half by the visitors.
Quiz: Can you name which club Middlesbrough sold these 26 players to?
Considering the East Midlands outfit had gone unbeaten in all but one of their 15 matches under manager Steve Cooper prior to this clash on Teesside, this was an impressive result for a Boro side that have also endured a good start to life under their own new boss.
Appointed in the early stages of November to succeed Neil Warnock, 54-year-old Wilder has won 14 points from a possible 21 in his opening seven league games as Boro boss, an impeccable record with the second-tier side not tasting defeat since 23rd November.
Many fans took to Twitter to deliver their verdict on the ex-Sheffield United boss after this latest victory, but did they feel they won the game because of him or in spite of him? How do they feel about his tenure thus far?
We take a look at what a selection of Boro supporters said about him after the final whistle yesterday evening.
It’s never been about poor recruitment in recent years at Boro, this is now a strong championship squad. It’s been about not getting the right managers/coaches to utilise the players brought in. Gibson looks like he’s finally got 1 right. Chrissy Wilder’s red and white army #utb

I’m the first to admit I was wrong about this squad. I believed the Warnock waffle! Warnock stabled us but wilder is taking us up! #UTB

Genuinely think Boro are in the race for the top two. Considering Wilder hasn’t been here for long our transformation has been nothing short of spectacular. Getting wins and playing some really nice stuff. The Wilder appointment may just be a masterstroke. #UTB

I’m not getting ahead of myself but Gibbos clinical decision to let Warnock go and bring Wilder in because he was available but in demand may rank as one of the best decisions he has ever made. Unusual for the Boro being pro active and not reactive 🤷🏼♂️🤞🏻🤞🏻#UTB
