Football League World's Birmingham City fan pundit Jack Blenkiron believes that reported transfer target Dan Crowley will provide some badly-needed creativity in their midfield.

The MailOnline broke the story on Wednesday morning, reporting that the Blues were on the brink of completing a deal for the Willem II midfielder as they prepare for life without Garry Monk.

"There has been a void of creativity in the central midfield position since the days of Barry Ferguson," the regular punter told Football League World.

"Crowley seems like the man to finally provide it.

"Not many fans will know the name, yet Crowley is one of the best passers in the Eredivisie, creating the most chances in Willem II’s midfield last season.

"This is an extremely exciting acquisition for Blues."

Crowley began his career at Aston Villa but was quickly snapped up by Arsenal, becoming one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the country.

And after underwhelming loan spells with Barnsley and Oxford United he has found his form again in the Netherlands, scoring five goals and assisting seven more last season, catching the attention of the Blues in the process.

After the departures of manager Garry Monk as well as attacking talents Che Adams and Jota this summer, Blenkiron believes that the St. Andrew's faithful need a lift and is hopeful that Crowley's arrival can provide it.

"Since Monk left, the departure of Che Adams has increased the despair amongst fans," he said.

"We’ve lost our most creative player in Jota, our top goal scorer and our manager within a matter of months.

"We are rumoured to have a few more irons in the fire, so it seems to be that we are rebuilding our ‘new era’ of players.

"We can only hope that Crowley fulfils the potential that was seen within him at Arsenal."
