Luton Town manager Graeme Jones has revealed that he tried to sign Blackburn Rovers' attacking midfielder Bradley Dack during his time at West Brom last season.

The Baggies were linked with a move for the Blackburn man during the previous campaign, and the strength of that interest now appears to have been highlighted.

Jones was assistant manager to Darren Moore at The Hawthorns during the previous campaign, and he has now confirmed that the Baggies did look to sign Dack - who scored 15 goals in his first season in the Championship last year - during Jones' time at the club.

Speaking ahead of Luton's trip to Ewood Park to face Blackburn on Saturday afternoon, Jones confirmed his former club's interest in the 25-year-old, and acknowledged his abilities, as he told Dunstable Today: “Me and Darren (Moore) at West Brom put an offer in for Dack, so we recognised his qualities.

"There’s very few with that natural ability who plays the 10 as well as he does, but it’s not just him."

Discussing those other players Jones believes will cause a threat to his Hatters side on Saturday, Jones continued: "(Stewart) Downing’s got great Premier League experience, (Sam) Gallagher they signed for, I don’t know how much, they’ve got lots of threats.

"My job is to stop their threats and try to exploit their weaknesses and the process is still ongoing.”

Blackburn go into the game tenth in the Championship off the back of consecutive wins over Millwall and Reading, with Dack having scored in his side's last three games.

Luton meanwhile are 21st in the Championship table, having lost their last three games in all competitions.

The Verdict

You can certainly understand Jones and West Brom's interest in Dack last season.

Despite his hugely influential performances in Blackburn's promotion campaign the season before, it did seem as though there were some questions about whether or not Dack could step up to the second tier for the first time in his career.

As it was, Dack took to life in the Championship in impressive style, and it is no surprise that West Brom took an interest in the midfielder, considering the extra attacking impetus he would have given them would have been a huge boost in their push for promotion.

With that interest in mind, it does seem to make sense that Blackburn are now apparently looking to tie their key man down to a new contract at Ewood Park, with his current deal set to expire at the end of next season.
