Former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi is set to leave Bolton, the BBC have reported.
The striker will leave at the end of the week, with Bolton unable to offer the striker a new deal due to the club’s worrying financial situation.
The Trotters must look to every possibility to reduce the bills, as the club are in a perilous position.
The 34-year-old joined Bolton after being released by Crystal Palace but Ameobi will be more recognised, following a 13 year spell with Newcastle United.
During that time, Ameobi was never a prolific scorer but was often cherished by Newcastle fans, due to his good goal scoring record against fierce rivals Sunderland.
Neil Lennon brought the Nigerian International into the club, ahead of what looked like a challenging season ahead.
Ameobi has failed to make a large enough impact since arriving, which meant it seemed like the obvious decision to let him go with Bolton’s difficult circumstances. The striker bagged just one goal in this brief spell.
Bolton are currently seven points adrift from the relegation zone at present. With no resources to bring players in, the season looks bleak for the club. Neil Lennon will have to overturn all the odds to survive, with just 19 games left to play.
Bolton fans, how would you rate Ameobi in his brief spell with the club? Was this the right decision by the club? Let us know in the comments below!
