Sunderland have had a busy summer, changing ownership and bringing in a new manager after suffering their second relegation in consecutive seasons to drop to League One for the 2018/19 campaign.

Owner Ellis Short sold the club to former Eastleigh owner Stewart Donald, while Jack Ross - last season's PFA Scotland Manager of the Year - takes over from Chris Coleman after leaving St Mirren.

Ross has brought in a number of new players, such as Jerome Sinclair, Dylan McGeouch, Glenn Loovens, Jon McLaughlin and many more.

But work still needs to be done on the first-team squad and Ross knows this.

There is just one week left before the start of the League One season and Sunderland face a tricky test to kick-start their season.

In the early kick-off in League One next Saturday, Sunderland host Charlton Athletic after Lee Bowyer's Addicks side fell short in the play-offs last season.

Here are two new signings Sunderland need to make before the game so that they can go into the starting XI.

Despite signing Alim Ozturk and Glenn Loovens, Sunderland need one more centre-half to compete for spots.

The Black Cats have agreed a deal for 25-year-old Jack Baldwin from Peterborough United, who would be the perfect youthful partner for veteran Loovens.

There has been talk of Sharp potentially joining on loan from Sheffield United if the Blades sign another striker.

The 32-year-old hit 14 goals last season and scored 30 league goals in 2016/17 in the third tier, making him the ideal experienced striker Sunderland need in their starting line-up.
