With the halfway stage of the season fast approaching, teams will be starting to reflect on and assess their performances thus far.

For Fulham, they will be most satisfied.

Plunged back into the Championship following a disastrous Premier League return, the Whites have adapted to the second-tier expertly, with Scott Parker appearing more and more accomplished a manager with each week.

But do not expect them to be quiet in January. In fact, a fresh target of their's emerged on Tuesday in the shape of exciting Ipswich midfielder Flynn Downes.

TWTD reported on Tuesday that the Whites have monitored the 20-year-old over the opening four months of the season with Brian Talbot, Fulham's assistant director of football and chief scout, attending the Tractor Boy's recent cup tie with Lincoln City at Portman Road.

QUIZ: Do you know where these 15 ex-Fulham players are playing now?

It is not yet clear whether or not Fulham are plotting a move to bring the youngster in during the January transfer window but it would be a big surprise if they have not been tempted following his start to the season.

In 13 League One appearance so far this season he has netted once and assisted one more, but his overall game in the middle of the park has been particularly impressive, controlling things in the middle of the park with a maturity beyond his years.

However, it is not a position that the Whites are short on, with the likes of Stefan Johansen, Tom Cairney, Harrison Reed, Josh Onomah and Bobby Decordova-Reid keeping the area well occupied.

And one player who will surely be dreading Downes' potential arrival more than anyone esle is the experienced Harry Arter.

The Irishman has tumbled down the pecking order in recent weeks thanks to a shinbone injury. He hasn't played a minute the 2-0 defeat to Stoke back in October.

As a result, he has played no part in Fulham's brilliant run of five wins in their last seven games, helping them move to within spitting distance of the top-two.

Given his experience, Arter will of course be confident that he still has something to offer at Craven Cottage, but he will also surely feel threatened by the potential arrival of Downes - an exciting youngster who, if he impresses, could completely usurp Arter.
