Gabby Agbonlahor’s long association with Aston Villa is set to end in the summer, with the striker’s contract at Villa Park up and no plans for an extension to be offered.

A report in the Telegraph has confirmed that the £25,000-a-week striker is already planning his future away from Villa Park and is considering a move to the MLS to reignite his faltering career.

Since Villa’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, Agbonlahor hasn’t featured regularly, with his time at Villa Park seemingly coming to an end when the 2017/18 campaign ends.

The 31-year-old has been with Villa for 17 years now, but this season has failed to have an impact as Steve Bruce’s side go in search of promotion back to the Premier League.

Agbonlahor has featured on just six occasions in the Championship for Villa, who currently sit fourth, with the striker scoring just one goal, which came on the opening day of the season in a 1-1 draw with Hull City.

Bruce last handed Agbonlahor an opportunity on December 23rd, when he stepped off the bench in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Sheffield United at Villa Park.

The Verdict

It hardly comes as a surprise that Agbonlahor’s time with Villa is coming to an end, as the striker’s involvement since the club’s relegation has been minimal.

Whether Villa are back in the Premier League or still in the Championship next season, Bruce is likely to make changes to his squad, with far too many players at Villa Park on the fringe.

With Agbonlahor’s long association with Villa set to come to an end, a move abroad could be the best way for the striker to move on.
