West Brom midfielder Gareth Barry has declared himself fit for the Baggies fixture against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

It was confirmed at the start of the month that Albion had brought the 38-year-old back to the club on a deal until the end of the season.

Since then, Barry has been working on his fitness as he looks to get near Slaven Bilic's XI and he played as the U23 side thrashed Port Vale this afternoon.

Following that, the former England international told the Express & Star that he felt capable of featuring against the Owls if he is given the nod.

"I feel good. We had a training game on Saturday and another game on Tuesday. I’ve come through both of those unscathed. The knee is feeling good and I’m looking forward to getting back whenever I am needed.

"I’ll never put myself out of a game. If the manager asked me what I was thinking in terms of Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, I’ve always put myself up for selection so it’s then down to the manager and the coaching staff to make a decision on the squad."

Bilic will be without first choice midfield pairing Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers due to suspension against Garry Monk's men.

The verdict

This has come at the perfect time for Barry as the manager will have to make some big decisions because of the suspensions in midfield on Saturday.

So, the fact that Barry has got some games under his belt will do him the world of good, although you would still expect Chris Brunt to be selected ahead of him.

Either way, the left-footer will be delighted to be back out there after a frustrating few months and he could play a big role in Albion's promotion push this season.
