Dynamic midfielder Owen Garvan is training with League One outfit Southend United as he looks to secure himself a contract ahead of the 2015/16 season.
According to the Southend Echo, the Irishman is on trial with the Shrimpers after becoming a free agent at the end of last season when he was released from Crystal Palace.
Southend boss Phil Brown is keen to add some experience to his squad and despite still only being 27-years-old Garvan is an accomplished performer at Championship level and would be a shrewd signing for a League One club.
The midfielder played 87 games for the Eagles in a spell which lasted just shy of five years.
He failed to hold down a regular first-team place however and experienced time out on loan with both Millwall and Bolton Wanderers.
The Ipswich Town academy starlet has been joined at Southend by former Millwall defender Jack Smith, who is also training with the club in an attempt to win a deal before the new season.
Southend fans… Would you welcome these two additions? Is Garvan just the type of player you need? How do you think the club will do in their first season back in the third tier? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
