Ian Holloway has revealed that he would be interested in speaking to Sheffield Wednesday about the possibility of succeeding Steve Bruce at Hillsborough.

The Owls are on the lookout for a new boss after the 58-year-old controversially quit for Newcastle. Bruce's decision has left Wednesday in a tough position with the new season just over two weeks away.

So, owner Dejphon Chansiri will be looking to make a swift appointment and BBC reporter Rob Stanton today explained that Holloway has expressed an interest in the job.

"Just had a chat with Ian Holloway to talk about Hull City's latest signing Josh Bowler. He also made it clear he'd be very interested in talking to Sheffield Wednesday about the vacancy there."

Holloway has been out of work since he was sacked by QPR in May 2018 and it's fair to say he has a mixed managerial record over the years.

Undoubtedly, his finest achievement came in 2010 when the took Blackpool to the Premier League on a tiny budget and then almost kept them up. He also won promotion through the play-offs again three years later with Crystal Palace.

The Verdict

There's no denying that Holloway would not be a very popular choice to take over from the fans and you can understand why as he hasn't convinced in all his jobs.

However, he has a real passion and energy that could help a club that are suffering right now, whilst he has plenty of experience of working under a budget which will be the case at Hillsborough.

Additionally, the 56-year-old is available and could take over immediately which will appeal given that the season is fast approaching.

Having said that, there are other candidates out there that would arguably be a better fit but Holloway is someone Chansiri should at least consider because the harsh reality is that Wednesday's financial situation means they may not get the big-name the fans would want.
