Simon Jordan has suggested Aston Villa could sell Jack Grealish and Jonathan Kodjia this summer, as the club look to raise funds to reshape their squad ahead of next season.

Villa’s financial difficulties are no secret, with the EFL scheduling a meeting with the club as worries continue to grow about the direction Villa are heading after they failed to win promotion back to the Premier League.

Player sales are expected this summer, with Jordan, Crystal Palace’s former owner, discussing Villa’s situation with talkSPORT.

The 50-year-old highlighted Grealish and Kodjia as two assets, who could be sold for a decent fee, which would help the club this summer and beyond. He said: “They've got some key assets in Jack Grealish and possibly Jonathan Kodjia that could be sold.

“Now I'm not suggesting that you sell your assets to be able to consolidate, I'm suggesting that Villa sell two assets to capitalise on them at a decent price to be able to make their squad more competitive to go again next season.”

Reports are suggesting that Grealish will be in demand this summer, after an impressive year in the Championship saw him score three goals and register six assists.

Chelsea are the latest club to be linked with the 22-year-old midfielder.

Unlike Grealish, Kodjia’s impact last season wasn’t key, but the striker has an excellent reputation in the Championship.

During the 2016/17 campaign, the Ivorian striker bagged 19 goals for Villa in the Championship.

The Verdict

Whilst Villa’s financial situation is a worry, if they can get a good fee for Grealish or Kodjia, it will help out massively.

That duo, along with James Chester, are Villa’s prized assets. If Villa get what they are worth in today’s market, Jordan is right, it will help the club out massively.

It would be disappointing to see that calibre of player leaving Villa Park, but Villa’s situation is difficult and looks likely to lead to sales.
