Millwall are expected to find out how severe Oli Burke's hamstring injury is today as he's set to have a scan after limping off against QPR.

The Lions beat their London rivals 2-0 on Tuesday night and were dominant throughout but Burke was forced off inside the opening half-hour to add to their injury woes.

Speaking to London News Online, Rowett provided an update on squad fitness and revealed that they should find out about the extent of the Sheffield United loanee's injury today.

He said: "Burkey is going for a scan today.

"Usually they let the injury settle down for 24 hours and then scan it.

“He was still feeling it yesterday, he was quite stiff and sore, but Benik was like that. He felt it was quite bad and his was the mildest strain you could get. Freeds didn’t feel too bad and then his probably about one of the worst you can get. So I’m reluctant to speculate.

“Benik is not too far away but we’ve got so many games coming up quickly that it is hard to shave a 10-day injury down to seven or eight because you are straight back into games and the likelihood is that it’s going to go again.

“We have to be really careful."

Burke joined on loan from the Blades in January and had made an impressive start at The Den – with his pace and direct running giving the Millwall forward line a new dimension.

However, it now seems he is set to join a list of injured attackers that includes Afobe, Ben Thompson, Sheyi Ojo, and fellow Sheffield United Luke Freeman – with the latter expected to miss the rest of the 2021/22 campaign.

There is some good news, though, with Rowett confirming that Arsenal loanee Dan Ballard is likely to be available for Saturday's game against Blackburn Rovers.

The Verdict

Millwall supporters will likely be waiting nervously to hear the verdict on Burke's injury because he's been really impressive since arriving at the club.

The 24-year-old has so much raw ability and seems to be enjoying his football under Rowett, so it would be a massive blow for all parties if he were ruled out long-term.

Injuries have plagued the south London club throughout the 2021/22 campaign and those at The Den will feel it would be just their luck were Burke to be sidelined significantly.

It seems his Blades teammate Freeman is unlikely to feature again this term but there is still hope for Burke.

A long-term absence for him and the Lions may have to wave any small hopes they had of the play-offs goodbye.
