There was a different feel about Leeds United during the 2016/17 campaign, with the club progressing well in the Sky Bet Championship and competing for a Premier League return.

Leeds’ quest for a top-six finish ultimately fell short after a disappointing end to the season, but a seventh-placed finish, six places higher than they achieved in the 2015/16 season, indicated the Whites were moving in the right direction.

This summer brought optimism to Elland Road, with Andrea Radrizzani completing a 100% takeover from Massimo Cellino and promising midfielder Ronaldo Vieira agreeing a new four-year contract with Leeds.

However, Leeds’ supporters have been sent into shock, with the club’s official website announcing that head-coach, Garry Monk, had handed in his resignation, which they had reluctantly accepted.

Leeds had been looking to extend Monk’s contract with the club by a further 12-months, before discussing a long-term contract with the 38-year old.
