Exclusive: Wycombe close to reaching agreement to sign 22-y/o midfielder

Wycombe Wanderers are set to announce the signing of former Zenit St Petersburg midfielder, Jacob Gardiner-Smith, a source close to the club has revealed exclusively to Football League World.

Gardiner had previously been on the books with the Russian giants, but left the club in 2018, after featuring regularly for their under 21’s side.

He’s been turning out for St Albans in recent months, but became a free agent when his contract came to an end at the end of last year’s campaign.

The source revealed that the midfielder has been on trial with Wycombe, and made a good impression in their friendly game last weekend.

He is set to feature for them again in their game against Barnet on Saturday, before being announced as a Wycombe player as they continue their pre-season preparations.

Wycombe will be hoping that the 22-year-old can make a positive impact for their side in League One next season, as they look to improve on their 17th place finish last term.
