The January window really summed up how things are for Sunderland at the moment and how they have been for some time - frustrating and difficult.

Hamstrung by money worries, the Black Cats have been in free-fall in recent times and they once again find themselves in a relegation battle as they fight to stay in the Championship.

Chris Coleman would have hoped that in January he could have got the signings he needed to help them up the table but, on the face of things initially, it might seem that he's not achieved all of what he wanted to.

For sure, an experienced Championship striker was needed to take the mantle from the likes of young Josh Maja and Joel Asoro but the club has only managed to sign Ashley Fletcher - a player who is still young himself.

Fletcher has got the unenviable task of trying to fire the Black Cats to safety, then, and ahead of his challenge I spoke to BT Sport pundit Adam Virgo to ask whether the club had done enough in the window...

"No I don't think they've done enough.

"Two years ago Chris Coleman took Wales to the semi-finals of a major tournament and I was amazed when he took the Sunderland job.

"I did think, though, that he's taking the job on the assumption he'd get some money to spend. Sunderland needed to spend big to stay in the league, they barely spent in the summer under Grayson and for me they needed to spend £20 million in January.

"They've not done that, though, they've bought a player in Fletcher that's been at a good club in Middlesbrough but he struggles for goals.

"I like him, he's got good potential but it's a lot to ask of him to come in and replace Grabban. Sunderland are a big club, defensively they need to be better but I think it's a lot to ask of him.

"I don't think Chris has done enough but I don't think it's his fault because he's not got the money to do it. I think for Sunderland it's going to be tough for Fletcher to score 5-10 goals for the rest of the season because that is what they need. It's where they are as a football club which is really sad to see."
