Wolves are ready to make an offer for Viktor Gyokeres as they look to win the race to sign the Coventry City striker, Football League World has been told.

The Swedish international has established himself as one of the best players outside the Premier League due to his form in the past 18 months, which includes scoring 12 goals in the current campaign.

Therefore, it's perhaps no surprise that Gyokeres has been linked with a host of top-flight clubs ahead of the January transfer window opening.

And, FLW can reveal that Wolves are looking to move ahead of the likes of Leeds United, Brentford, Southampton and Crystal Palace as they are planning to make an offer to the Sky Blues.

New boss Julen Lopetegui is expected to be backed significantly in the New Year, with Wanderers having already brought in Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid in a deal that could eventually cost around £40m.

However, further additions are likely, including a new number nine with doubts over the future of Raul Jimenez.

Whilst Coventry will be reluctant to lose their star man mid-season, especially when a top six finish is possible, they may find it hard to resist if a substantial bid is placed in the coming weeks.
