West Bromwich Albion remain keen on a summer transfer move for Portsmouth’s standout star Jamal Lowe, a source close to West Brom has exclusively confirmed to Football League World.
Baggies scouts have continued to make regular check-ups on the 24-year-old attacker, who has gone on to score 14 goals in League One to aid Pompey’s push for promotion.
The Midlands outfit were linked with a move for Lowe back in the January transfer window, alongside Middlesbrough and Leeds United as reported via Sky Sports – however a deal never materialised and the former Barnet man stayed put at Fratton Park, signing a new contract at the club until the summer of 2020.
The source has confirmed to Football League World that the Baggies are keen on a move regardless of whether Portsmouth seal promotion or not, though a deal would be much harder to secure if the south coast club are plying their trade in the Championship next season.
Lowe joined Portsmouth back in 2017 from non-league outfit Hampton and Richmond Borough, and has come on leaps and bounds in recent seasons to become one of League One’s hottest properties.
His raw pace, dribbling ability and tenacity have terrorised opposition defences in the third tier, and Pompey are likely to be very keen to keep hold of one of their most prized assets.
West Brom meanwhile, find themselves in a promotion battle of themselves, with Jimmy Shan’s side firmly in the play-off mix in the Championship, occupying fourth spot with just two games of the regular season to go.
The Baggies face Rotherham United and Derby County in their final two fixtures, before attempting to manoeuvre themselves through the lottery that is the Sky Bet Championship play-offs.
