Aston Villa have been flying along in recent weeks and look a pretty safe bet to make the play-offs now in the Sky Bet Championship.
The Villans have produced some very nice stuff going forwards whilst defensively they have really tightened up.
However, the futures of Tyrone Mings, Axel Tuanzebe and Kortney Hause all remain unclear, so who knows what Villa’s defence may look like next season.
To try and clarify the subject, then, we spoke to former Villa man Stephen Warnock to get his take on it all.
He told us exclusively…
“I don’t think they’re all going to stay, to be honest.
“What they’re trying to do is cover all the bases to make sure they’ve got options if one does leave or is recalled and you can see that clearly at the moment.
“They haven’t had a back-up in the past or something longer term, so it’s clever strategy and management from them.
“They’re blessed in that area where they haven’t been for a long time. They’re playing well now, they’re keeping clean sheets and they’re showing that form that we expected from them all season. Whether it’s too late or not is yet to be seen but I don’t think it will be I think that they’ll sneak in.
“I think the one thing you’ll say about Dean Smith’s team is that he’ll want ball-playing centre-backs and so whoever stays needs to be comfortable in doing that.”
