With only three months of the 2018/19 campaign left to play, the race for automatic promotion from League One is hotting up, with a host of clubs still in with a chance of securing a place in the Championship next year.

It is perhaps the tightest race for automatic promotion in League One for many a year, with so many teams trading places in the league standings after such a hectic February schedule.

Luton have seemingly come from out of nowhere to climb to top spot, and have creatde a considerable gap between themselves and 3rd position. The Hatters have replaced Portsmouth at the summit of the table, who have hit a bad patch in recent weeks, and have slumped down the table at perhaps the worst possible time.

With Charlton still in the mixer, Barnsley on fire, and Sunderland still having games in hand on the teams above, it's shaping up to be an eccentric push for promotion in the third tier.

We exclusively spoke to EFL on Quest pundit Stephen Warnock, to see who he thinks will secure that elusive automatic promotion to the Championship come the end of the season...

"I think Sunderland will make it, and I think they will make it because of Will Grigg. I think him and Charlie Wyke are big players in that league, they are strong and powerful, and when you look at their squad in general, they have got more than enough to get out of League One. If I had to put my money on someone, it would be them.

"I think Barnsley as well - they have gone about their job quietly and have let Portsmouth run away with it for a while and have let Luton join in, but I just think they're going about it the right way.

"Again, they have still got a lot of quality in the squad that played in the Championship, and I think they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season."
