Ipswich Town recently secured the service of Alan Judge from Brentford, with the Irish playmaker ending a successful spell at Griffin Park to link up with Paul Lambert.

Lambert’s side are struggling and unless something drastic changes, they are likely to be playing League One football next year.

However, the capture of Judge still feels like a coup for Town, with the 30-year-old a player that has previously shone at Brentford.

Judge helped the Bees to promotion from League One back in 2014, before two magnificent seasons in the Championship, where he scored a combined total of 17 goals and assisted a further 24.

A nasty leg-break came in April 2016, with Judge never fully recovering and his Brentford career subsequently ending.

Now, he’s at Portman Road under the management of Lambert.

EFL on Quest pundit, Stephen Warnock, caught up with FLW over the weekend, where he discussed Judge’s move to East Anglia and whether he can rediscover his very best form.

“Why not? One of the things when you’ve had an injury like that is you want to play games straight away,” Warnock said.

“Brentford are obviously in a little bit of a transition period, with the new manager promoted from within; is he going to give him the game time he (Judge) needs?

“Paul Lambert obviously knows him well from the Championship, knows what he’s got, his pedigree, what he can bring to the team. He’s infectious with the way he plays, his energy, the way he is, he’s a winner as well, he doesn’t like losing, he doesn’t take it well, which is great to have in your team. I think that’s what Ipswich need at this moment in time.

“He is a senior player, so he will have to go in that dressing room with a bit of confidence and an arrogance about him to lift other players around him.”

Judge made his debut on Saturday afternoon as Ipswich’s relegation fears worsened with a 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

Warnock believes that Judge can’t singlehandedly help pull Ipswich to safety, but between him and James Collins, another January addition, they will help improve Town’s chance.

“He’s not going to do it singlehandedly, he needs help in and around him,” Warnock continued.

“I think James Collins, another former teammate of mine, has gone in and will do that.

“He’s a leader, he will organise from the back, which is what you need in the Championship.”
