The Sky Bet Championship action kicked off last Friday with West Brom and Birmingham playing out an entertaining Midlands derby.

It was West Brom who were the victors, though, as Birmingham lost out in their quest to try and pull away from the bottom three.

How concerned should they be about the drop, then? We spoke to EFL on Quest pundit Stephen Warnock exclusively to assess their chances…

“You’ll always worry because of the position they find themselves in and their run-in is tough as well.

“They’ve got some of the top teams to play which is always going to be tough. They’re always going to find it difficult to pick up points in those games.

“When you’re fighting for promotion or the play-offs it’s easier to get results sometimes but when you’re down the bottom and you’re desperate for points it’s a lot harder.

“They have a bit of a gap between themselves and the others in the relegation zone but that can change very quickly.

“Garry Monk is a very good manager, though, and in the circumstances he’s been in you can tell he’s got his team right behind him. So I think they’ll be fine but it could be quite close.”
