Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce is keen on a move for Wigan Athletic centre-back Chey Dunkley, a source close to the player has exclusively confirmed to Football League World.

The 27-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the Latics' most prized assets, after an impressive few years at the DW Stadium since joining from Oxford United on a free in 2017.

Dunkley was a regular in Paul Cook's starting eleven last season, making 39 appearances as he helped them stave off the threat of relegation.

The Owls are currently under a 'soft transfer embargo' which prevents them from signing any new players, but The Star are suggesting that the Sheffield outfit are hopeful the ban imposed on them will be lifted by the EFL, so recruitment can begin.

Sheffield Wednesday are close to confirming deals for Moses Odubajo and Julian Börner, with talks underway to seal a deal for free-agent winger Kadeem Harris also in the pipeline.

Bruce will be looking to propel Sheffield Wednesday into the top six of the Championship next season at the very least, with the Owls finishing the 2018/19 season in the middle of the pack, in 12th spot.
