Exclusive: Scott Minto details the area where Sheffield Wednesday must improve

Scott Minto has urged Garry Monk to find his best Sheffield Wednesday team and stick with it if they’re to challenge for promotion.

The Owls are currently sitting three points outside of the play-off positions after winning just one game in their last five.

While things are still going well for Monk’s side, it’ll be crucial for them to find a degree of consistency if they’re to mount a sustainable push for the Premier League.

The Sky Sports EFL presenter was speaking exclusively to Football League World and said that Monk needs to find a winning formula and stick with it.

Minto said: “You look at the players that Sheffield Wednesday have got and they have some excellent players.

“He’s done very to set them up defensive, which is something that isn’t a surprise with Garry Monk.

“The question for me is can he get the right blend going forward?

“I think that the teams that do well are the teams that don’t make many changes, so he’s got to find a formula and a right eleven.

“He’s got so many strikers there that if things don’t go well at any point, the pressure to change things and put another striker in is great.

“But a top manager is able to see what’s right for the medium term and not just the short term.

Can Garry Monk guide Sheffield Wednesday to a top-six finish?

No

“Sometimes the hardest decision is sticking with the same side when things aren’t going well to let the team develop, but I think Garry Monk’s got the experience to do that.

“He’s made a great impact, he’s got the talent going forward and would I be surprised to see Sheffield Wednesday get in the top six? No, but would I have been surprised at the start of the season? Yes.

“Will they be in there? I wouldn’t put a penny on it because they’re one of about 10 teams that you could ask the same question about.”
