Coventry City are set to complete the signing of Reading right-back Tennai Watson on loan, a source close to the player has exclusively told Football League World's Chief Editor Sam Rourke.

The 22-year-old spent last season out on loan with AFC Wimbledon in League One and is now set for a move back to the third-tier after failing to make the matchday squad in any of the Royals five Championship matches this season.

During his time with the Wombles, Watson racked-up 24 appearances and one assist as he helped Wally Downes' men survive the drop against the odds.

He will become the sixth player to depart the Madejski on loan this summer, following Adrian Popa, Jordan Holsgrove, Marc McNulty, Modou Barrow and Sam Smith to temporary locations.

He will also become the Sky Blues' 14th signing of the transfer window as Mark Robins' looks to turn his side into genuine challengers for a play-off place.

The beginning of the 2019/20 campaign has seen Reading continue their fine form under Jose Gomes, winning two of their last three matches and drawing one to sit comfortably in 11th place.

This weekend sees them come up against high-flying Charlton Athletic at the Madejski in what looks set to be a thoroughly entertaining encounter.
