Blackburn Rovers are of the opinion that Joe Rothwell is set to leave the club for Glasgow Rangers, with a pre-contract agreement in January 'almost certain,' a source close to the situation has told Football League World exclusively.

Rothwell's contract is approaching its expiry at the end of this current season and he is, therefore, able to agree a move away from Ewood Park on a free to wherever he wishes.

It appears, too, that Rangers are in the pound seats to sign him at the moment, with Rovers now feeling as though a move for the player to Ibrox is almost certain in the near future, with a pre-contract agreement being closed in on.

Yesterday, this site brought you the exclusive initial news that it was Rangers leading the race for the player but that the likes of Norwich City and AFC Bournemouth were also taking a look at him, with him obviously available on a free at the end of this season.

However, it is Rangers that appear to be well in front of the other pair to the extent now that Rovers feel it very likely Rothwell will be swapping Ewood Park for Ibrox in the near future.
