League One returns this weekend and it promises to be a mouth-watering title race in the third tier this season.

There are some big clubs in there, with the likes of Portsmouth, Sunderland, Coventry City and Charlton Athletic all playing League One football next term.

You can catch up with all the action from League One on Saturday evenings with the EFL Highlights show on Quest TV, hosted by Colin Murray with Dean Ashton and Ian Holloway on the panel as pundits.

Looking ahead to the upcoming League One campaign, FLW writer Jay Williams caught up with the Quest TV pundits to find out who they were predicting to win the title.

Holloway, who was recently managing Queens Park Rangers in the Championship, believes that Burton Albion are the most likely of the three relegated teams to win promotion back to the Championship.

The Brewers were relegated on the final day of the season but much of the talk has been about Sunderland and Barnsley this summer.

Holloway, however, told us at Quest TV's Highlights Show launch: “I fancy Burton Albion. They were so unlucky to go down. They’re not making many changes, Nigel Clough knows what he’s doing and I think they’ll bounce back.

"Normally one of the relegated teams comes back up. It should be Sunderland, but I'm going to go with Burton."

On the topic of Sunderland, Holloway was wary of their off-the-field problems and is unsure whether Stewart Donald's takeover will start reversing their form on the pitch.

Holloway added: “Can Sunderland do it? Will their fans reunite with their team or will it be too much, who knows?”

Former Crewe Alexandra, Norwich City and West Ham United striker Ashton had a few more names to throw in the hat for League One promotion.

Ashton said: “I think League One is as difficult as the Championship to call. I think Lee Bowyer, one of my ex-teammates, I'll be interested to see how he gets on at Charlton. I'll expect him to get his side to be hardworking and disciplined.

"I think Portsmouth are also going to be one to watch with Kenny Jackett. And then everyone is going to have their eyes on Joey Barton and how he gets on at Fleetwood, how he reacts in press conferences and how he gets along with his team. I'm intrigued to see how he gets on."

Charlton, Fleetwood and Portsmouth will all be hoping to go one better after falling short last season.

The Addicks reached the play-offs but were defeated in the semi-finals, while Pompey fell short and Fleetwood had to settle for a mid-table finish after a disappointing campaign.

Quest TV's host Murray is also backing Portsmouth for success this season.

He said: “There are so many variables but I fancy Portsmouth this season with everything that’s going on. I’m a bit of a romantic, though.

"I think when clubs go through problems, I start routing for them. I’m a fan at the end of the day, when a team has suffered I always like to see them do well. I’m glad Coventry have gone up and Blackburn have gone up.”
