Speculation around Lyndon Dykes' future at Queens Park Rangers may be close to ending as the West Londoners aim to tie down the Australian to a new contract.

Football League World understands that the Rs are set to offer Dykes a new deal to ward off interest from Rangers.

We brought you the exclusive in mid December that Mick Beale was keen on taking Dykes to Ibrox in January, but that Neil Critchley's admiration for the striker was going to make things difficult for the Gers.

Critchley may well have had this way this time around, with the Rs board set to back the former Blackpool manager financially in attempting to tie down Dykes, and in that aim to secure the spearhead of their attacking contingent for the foreseeable future.

QPR will still fancy their chances of forcing their way into the top six this season, and they demonstrated their credentials in their last match, coming agonisingly close to beating second-placed Sheffield United, conceding a scrappy 96th minute John Egan goal, to ensure the Blades took a share of the spoils.

Dykes has six goals in the second tier so far this term, with his availability improving on last season, and his current deal at Loftus Road runs until the summer of 2024.

An extension until the end of the 2025/26 season or a year around that time period would feel appropriate, and show the board's faith in Critchley in what could turn out to be a very important January window for the club.

Signing a new deal in West London would certainly dampen any further murmurs around Dykes' future.
