Pontus Jansson recently picked up December’s PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award, with the Leeds United centre-back quick to thank the Elland Road faithful for their support.

Leeds enjoyed an outstanding end to 2018, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side winning five of their six fixtures in the month of December.

For Jansson, it was an even more impressive month, with the centre-back scoring in the 3-2 victory over Aston Villa and producing a number of massive defensive performances.

This week, Jansson was presented with December’s award, with Football League World catching up with the Swedish international.

“It’s an honour,” the 27-year-old stated. “I’ve done something good to win it and there are a lot of good players in this league, but it comes from a good month for the team also.

“We won a lot of tough games, but it is always nice to win things.”

The form of Leeds in December was a real statement in the Championship’s promotion race, with Leeds now looking to maintain their push and deliver Premier League football for the first time since 2004.

Jansson, who is a real fan favourite at Elland Road, again highlighted the importance of the support the team is given.

“They’re really helping me and really helping the team,” he continued. “Without the team I wouldn’t win this one.

“The support they make for our team, both away and at home, is just unbelievable.

“Hopefully they are going to be with us for the rest season and make us successful in going back to the Premier League.”

Tomorrow, Leeds are in action against Middlesbrough, with the Whites looking to get back to their best after suffering four defeats in six Championship fixtures.
