Norwich City will sign Ben Gibson permanently if they win promotion to the Premier League, a source has revealed to Football League World.

Gibson has just had his season cut short due to an ankle ligament injury picked up in the recent meeting with Blackburn Rovers.

The club confirmed Gibson's setback would rule him out of the remainder of the season, but as the centre-back reflected on the news, he teased a return for pre-season on his Twitter account.

Football League World understand that Norwich will make the deal to take Gibson from Burnley a permanent transfer in the event of promotion.

Daniel Farke's side are currently top of the Championship table, with one foot in the Premier League and a hand on the title, as they sit 14 points clear of Swansea City in third and eight points clear of Watford in second.

Gibson had made 27 appearances in the heart of the Norwich defence since arriving on loan from Burnley, showing shades of the form that made him such a hit at Middlesbrough before his move to Turf Moor.

The centre-back never hit the heights expected of him in a Burnley shirt, managing only six appearances for the club following a club-record arrival at the time of the transfer in 2018.

As it is now, the 28-year-old looks set to end his stay in Lancashire should Norwich get over the line without him in the race for promotion.
