Sheffield Wednesday made the decision to sack Jos Luhukay on Friday, with the Owls languishing in the bottom half of the Championship.

The former Gladbach boss took over at Hillsborough at the start of 2018 but struggled to have a positive impact at the club.

Many hoped he would use the summer to make his own mark on the team but Wednesday have been very poor this season in terms of results and performances, whilst his team selection has often attracted criticism.

Therefore, despite backing him at a fan forum just days before, owner Dejphon Chansiri decided to remove the manager ahead of the January window, with Steve Bruce set to take over.

Recently, FLW's Chris Gallagher caught up with Nigel Reo-Coker at the Quest TV studio to get his thoughts on whether the sacking of Luhukay was justified:

I think from an owner’s perspective if you were going to make a change it probably was the best time to do it. With the January window coming it’s an important time for managers in the Championship.

If you want to make a change it’s best to do it now when a new manager can come in and identify players and changes he might want to make whilst the window is open.

It’s better to do that than after the window because then you’re always going to have a manager being able to use the excuse of not being able to bring his own players in.

It’s a great club, fantastic support. I remember the days of Sheffield Wednesday being in and around the Premier League. For the past few years they did well but at the moment they’ve fallen off and maybe it might be the right time to make a change.”

Despite finding themselves without a permanent manager over the weekend, the Owls picked up a much-needed victory over Preston North End, easing their relegation fears.
