Sheffield Wednesday have finally confirmed that Steve Bruce will be the man to replace Jos Luhukay, although he won't begin working until February.

The experienced boss has been out of football since he was sacked by Aston Villa earlier in the season.

However, it quickly became apparent that he was the number one choice for owner Dejphon Chansiri after he decided to remove Luhukay from his position.

Caretaker Lee Bullen did a brilliant job for the four games over the festive period, picking up eight points and remaining undefeated.

And, he will be joined by Bruce's trusted assistants Stephen Clemence and Steve Agnew in overseeing things this month, before Bruce takes charge.

And, former promotion-winning midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker exclusively told us that this is a wise move from the Owls: "I think it’s the right direction definitely. Steve Bruce has got so much knowledge of the Championship and the British league and he knows how to get teams promoted.

"He’s proven, his pedigree speaks for itself and I think that will be the right direction to head in."

A key reason for backing the decision is the experience that Bruce has, with the 58-year-old a proven winner at this level with four promotions under his belt: "I believe in getting a British manager in because they know what it is and what it takes for this league. It’s not that easy for foreign managers to understand the Championship and how competitive it is."

At the moment, Wednesday are currently 16th in the table and hold a ten-point cushion over third from bottom, Bolton Wanderers.
