With the turn of the year looming, West Bromwich Albion definitely look on course to win promotion back to the Premier League this season.

The Baggies have flourished under the watchful eye of Slaven Bilic, with the Croatian manager simply hitting the ground running since his arrival at The Hawthorns in the summer.

Under Bilic, Albion have taken the Championship by storm, winning 13 of their opening 20 league matches and losing just the one game thus far this season.

That defeat came against Leeds United way back in October, and since then, both sides have created a massive gap between themselves and third place.

One player who has played an integral role in helping the Baggies cement their place in the automatic promotion places is Matheus Pereira.

The Brazilian playmaker - who arrived at The Hawthorns on loan from Sporting CP in the summer - has been one of many standout performers for the Baggies this season.

The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting players to watch in the EFL, scoring five goals and registering an impressive 10 assists for Albion.

Grady Diangana, Romaine Sawyers and Matty Phillips have also been vital players for West Brom, but it's Pereira who has stole the show with a number of incredible displays.

FLW's Chief Editor Sam Rourke recently caught up exclusively with Nigel Quashie, who raved about Pereira's season so far.

As well as hailing the playmaker's quality on the ball, the former Albion midfielder also praised his work off it, saying: "I've been fortunate enough to go up there and watch them every week and one thing I will say is, what a player.

"Not just being a creative number 10, but his work ethic, his attitude, his determination, his desire. These are things you can't teach as a coach.

"He's obviously come in from a European club where the football is a bit slower, but he's come in and landed on his feet straight away. He's contributed to the team with and without the ball.

"It has been a pleasure to sit there and see someone like that come in and really stamp his authority on the team and the league.

"I wouldn't be far off from saying that he's one of the best attacking players I've seen at West Brom in a long, long time."
