Middlesbrough are taking a closer look at former Aston Villa and Swansea City defender Neil Taylor, Football League World can reveal exclusively.

Taylor is currently a free agent and is looking for a new club having played for the likes of the Villans and the Swans in the Premier League in years gone by.

Middlesbrough, meanwhile, are still on the hunt for cover for the left hand side of their defence with them missing out on Robbie Brady earlier this week, as the versatile former Burnley player opted to join Scott Parker's AFC Bournemouth side.

Taylor, then, could be the next best option for Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock, and it's evident he's looking for an experienced head to come in and help his squad, as they aim to find some more consistency in the Sky Bet Championship.

Boro have tended to win a game and then lose a game so far this season with them beating Peterborough United last time out at the weekend with two late goals.

They'll be eager to build on that in this round of midweek fixtures, then, and we'll have to see if and when Taylor is brought into the fold, with Boro at least weighing it up right now.
