Sunderland will be hoping they can go one better than last season in League One, after they were defeated by Charlton Athletic in the Play-Off Final at Wembley.

Jack Ross' side have started this year's campaign brightly, although they were convincingly beaten by Peterborough United before the international break.

So, they'll be keen to get back to winning ways this weekend, when they take on Accrington Stanley who have struggled for positive results so far this term.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World's Chief Editor Sam Rourke, former Sunderland man Micky Gray issued his thoughts ahead of the Black Cats' game against Accrington Stanley.

"It's about momentum isn't it. They looked as if they started to go on a good run and then they get beat 3-0 by Peterborough and you're thinking is this the way the season is going to be panning out? Are we going to be great for a couple of weeks and then have a dip in form?"

Gray went on to admit that the win over Saturday's opponents earlier this season could tilt the game in their favour, as it brings confidence to the squad heading into the game.

"When you look at teams like Accrington Stanley, they've played them in the cup already and got a good result. Once you've got one over them, you always feel that little bit more confident playing them again."

A win could see Sunderland move back into the top-six, where they'll be keen to remain for the rest of this year's campaign under Jack Ross' guidance.
