Sheffield Wednesday recently appointed Garry Monk as their new manager, as the former Birmingham boss takes charge of the Owls after Lee Bullen's spell in the dugout at Hillsborough.

They're currently sat 11th in the league table, and Monk will be hoping that he can turnaround their slight dip in form which saw Bullen replaced by the 40-year-old.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World's Chief Editor Sam Rourke, former Sheffield Wednesday man Micky Gray highlighted one player that Monk will have to keep fit this season if they are to challenge for a top-six finish.

"You've got to wrap Steven Fletcher up in cotton wool as he has been injury prone throughout his career. But when you look at someone like Steven who is a talented player, he looks as though he's got his confidence back scoring goals."

Gray went on to admit that his former side have a chance of finishing inside the play-off places by the end of this year's campaign, but was quick to insist that Monk could be tempted to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.

"I don't think you can forget that he's actually been given this squad.

"If they can stay in and around those play-off positions by January, and maybe with a couple of additions they'll feel confident going into the second-half of the season that they've got every chance of finishing in that top-six."

Monk will be hoping that he can get off to a winning start at the weekend, when Sheffield Wednesday take on Huddersfield Town who will be looking for their first win of the season.
