The January transfer window is a crucial time for many sides but you get the feeling it's more important for Reading than for most.

The Royals have been struggling for a long time now and they once again find themselves firmly in the relegation battle in the second tier this year.

New manager Jose Gomes seems keen on letting plenty of players go and replacing them mid-season, then, but could that be a risk?

We asked EFL on Quest pundit Michael Brown for his view...

"It’s very very difficult because you always think the grass is greener and there are other players out there but if he goes and then brings in lots of players during the window you wonder whether they will be able to adapt.

"When you’re at the bottom of the league there’s that uncertainty. Are you brave enough to get rid of and sign all of them at once? Maybe two or three can help them improve the squad but to make wholesale changes at this stage could be very very risky."
