Manchester City might have caught the eye in the Premier League for their goal-scoring prowess but in League Two there's been similar sharp shooting from Luton Town.

The Hatters were backed by many at the start of the season as one of the sides to watch in the race for promotion and so far that has come to pass with them leading the way from Notts County in second place.

And, leading the charge for the club at the moment, is striker Danny Hylton with 15 goals to his name so far this season in the league.

This campaign could just prove a memorable one for both club and player as things stand at the moment and so ahead of the rest of the year, I spoke with the forward to chat about the season as a whole and much more besides...

Danny, sum up the season so far for Luton Town this year...

So far it's gone pretty much as we hoped, we're top of the league and there's a small gap between us and fourth place because the main thing is that we set out to get promoted and at the minute we're top and there's that small gap.

It has been bigger, the gap's slightly shrunk over the last couple of games - we've had a couple of bad away games - but on the whole we're happy where we are and if someone said with 19 games to go we'd be top of the league, I'm sure everyone would have taken it. So yeah, we're bang on track at the moment.

The title race is looking quite close at the moment between you and Notts County especially, have you as players thought about the title much?

It's cliché isn't it to say one game at a time?

Yeah of course, we're only human and when you're top of the league and have got through the Christmas stage and you're nearing the end of January you do think about it.

We haven't had a meeting saying we're going to win the league or anything like that but I've certainly thought about it and that's where I want to finish, I want to finish top. We'll be looking to do that and I'm sure every Notts County player and Accrington Stanley player and those down to about tenth in the league all still think they've got a chance of winning the title.

We're no different and we'll be doing all we can to try and achieve that.

As well as that, the Golden Boot race is looking close with you and Billy Kee tied on 15 goals at the top - have you thought much about that?

Again, it's similar to the league thing.

I mean if I don't finish top scorer in the league and we get promoted I'm equally as happy you know. If you gave me the scenario where we get promoted and I don't score another goal for the rest of the season then I'd bite your hand off because it's not about me or any other individual.

At Luton it's about achieving what we set out to do as a team but yeah of course I'm playing in a great team and it's been going well so far and I'm a forward so I want to score goals and keep trying to score goals.

I'll try and finish top but I'm aware there's very good players around me like Billy Kee, Christian Doidge, Kristian Dennis and Adebayo Akinfenwa. Everyone's got their own way of playing and they're all good players so if I'm in and around them at the end of the season then I won't have done too badly.

What's been most impressive is that you missed the start of the season with an injury...

Yeah I had a little operation and I missed the first three, four, five games maybe. Credit to our players though who have got great ability that if you make the right runs and do the right things on the pitch they can find you and can create chances for you, so long may that continue.

Isaac Vassell and Jack Marriott obviously left the club before this season but the likes of James Collins came in from Crawley, what's it been like working with him and the other forwards?

He's been fantastic since he's come in, he knows the league.

We missed out on promotion last season probably because we were a bit short on a few players that knew the league or who had played a lot of games. We strengthened this year - old and young - and Collo's not old at all but he knows this league very well and it's healthy competition.

Me, him, Harry Cornick, Jordan Cook, people talk about it like it's a rivalry like: 'Is James Collins going to finish top scorer?' or 'is Danny Hylton going to finish top scorer?' but there's no rivalry between us. If one of us scores we're all happy and we push each other every single day, we work hard and Collo has just added to that and we'll keep pushing one another to the limit. If we do that we won't be far off.

It's obviously working too. 62 goals so far in the league this season as a team, you've pasted a few sides as well, why's it been so good going forward?

To be honest, the players just go out there and we play and sometimes you have to play off the cuff and make decisions and that's how it is.

But honestly, we've got a great bunch of lads that work tirelessly every single day in training we've got staff and a manager who, and I'm not just saying this, is amazing.

His staff are amazing and they work tirelessly with us, with players in every position and on patterns of play. We work on our structure, how we want to play, the runs we want to make, the balls the midfielders and full backs are playing. It's not luck when we beat teams by seven and I don't mean this arrogantly or anything, it's just stuff we work on every single day in training so when you see it come to light in games it's nice and shows that all the hard work is paying off.

Hopefully we can continue to score five or six in games because ultimately it's worth another point at the end of the season on goal difference and looking how tight it is with Notts County and Accrington Stanley it could be vital.

So yeah, credit goes down to the hard work and the hours the players, manager and staff spend with us.

Speaking of your manager Nathan Jones, a lot of people see him as one of the next bright managers, how good is he and how far could he go?

I'm not just saying it, he's a manager that could go right to the top and manage at the highest level.

He's only been a manager two years and he's been amazing and he always says he's improving and learning every day and sometimes you get a coach that's a good man manager or a good coach but not always good with doing both but he is and so are his staff.

He's so into every bit of detail, there's no stone unturned and going into games we know every bit of information we need and how we're going to score goals.

I could go on but he leaves nothing to chance, he's been brilliant with me at the club and filled me with confidence so that's probably why I've done well at Luton because I feel he has 100% belief in me and you can just go out and play with a freedom that makes the game a lot easier and simpler.

Obviously Luton recently lost to Newcastle in the FA Cup which was disappointing for you, but you got on the score-sheet so where does that moment rank in your career?

Yeah I've been involved in a few games in nice stadiums but yeah it was a great occasion.

I'd never been there before but when we went there it takes your breath away. It's an amazing stadium, everyone always says how big a club Newcastle is but I didn't realise until I went there how big it was. The fans were amazing, the stadium was amazing, it was a great occasion.

It was a game that we wanted to go there and not just have a day out and lose and go 'that was nice,' we genuinely went there and wanted to win the game and apart from a nine minute period where we conceded the three goals there wasn't too much in the game.

Apart from that nine minute spell there wasn't much in the game and in the second half I thought we dominated for 35-4o minutes of the game. We scored a goal, had one disallowed and hit the crossbar and so it was fine margins but yeah they're a good team and it was a great opportunity to test ourselves.

We'll just take a look at some more light-hearted questions now, starting with the worst-dressed in the squad...

Do you know what, every-time I get asked this my mind goes blank - I can't even remember anyone's name.

There's not many badly dressed, no-one comes in where you think they look bad. Pelly Ruddock is quite out there, he'll wear flowery shirts but to be fair he'll pull them off. He doesn't look bad, he does look good but he's probably the most out there, he's not frightened to try something new.

Who's normally playing the pranks?

My room-mate Johnny Mullins - he just never stops.

There's a few good ones in the dressing room and we have a laugh but he is non-stop, he's relentless all day everyday.

Normally we're a bit of a double act, we room together on away days so I'll have to say Johnnie Mullins.

Who's on the music before kick-off?

That's Pelly Ruddock again.

He's the DJ, he plays a variety of stuff but we often get on him because he plays the typical music you'd play to get up for a game.

There's a bit of upbeat, a bit of rap, but I keep getting on him to be fair asking him to play something a bit slower, a bit more chilled out but it never goes down too well. I'll leave him in charge of the music.

Who's the next Nathan Jones?

I'd have to say just because he's the captain and he's got that fear factor about him if he loses his rag or starts shouting - Scott Cuthbert.

He's doing his coaching badges, he's got a bit of a manager look about him, he's old-school and when he shouts at you in games he gets a bit scary and so I wouldn't be surprised to see him become a manager.

Finally, would you fancy managing yourself in the future?

I don't know, I'd maybe go into coaching one day but I've not really thought about it no!
