Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell turned down the chance to join Coventry City after a U-turn late in the January window, sources have exclusively informed Football League World.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Millwall but was heavily linked to other Championship clubs in the winter window.

Middlesbrough and Sunderland were both touted as potential destinations but it seems the Sky Blues came closest to signing him.

Sources have exclusively informed FLW that Cresswell had agreed to join Coventry on a permanent deal late in the window but changed his mind and decided to remain a Leeds player.

FLW understands that he was keen to remain a Whites loanee rather than leave Elland Road permanently as he still feels he can have a future at the Yorkshire club.

It is thought that Cresswell will be happy to see the back of Jesse Marsch, who was sacked by Leeds earlier this month.

A shift to a back four had meant a lack of opportunities at Millwall for the defender in December and January but Shaun Hutchinson's injury has seen him make an impressive return to the team.

Cresswell is due to return to Leeds at the end of the 2022/23 campaign and is under contract at Elland Road until 2025.
