Exclusive: Lee Hendrie responds when asked if Nottingham Forest are too reliant on Lewis Grabban

Lee Hendrie believes that Nottingham Forest have been too reliant on Lewis Grabban this year as the striker continues to inspire their promotion push.

The 32-year-old hit his 17th of the season on Monday night as he salvaged a point for the Reds at Middlesbrough, with that strike meaning he is ten clear of next-best Forest teammate Joe Lolley in terms of goals.

That has prompted some to suggest that Sabri Lamouchi’s men are relying too much on the ex-Aston Villa man as they seek a return to the Premier League.

And, that’s an idea that Hendrie supports, with the former England international exclusively telling Football League World’s Chief Editor Sam Rourke that Forest should have been closer to the automatic promotion places with Grabban’s goals.

I really do (think they rely on him). The thing with Lewis Grabban is he has just been so consistent over seasons, scoring goals. When you’ve got a striker and you take him out the equation and you’re like ‘where are the goals coming from?’ And, that’s the issue you’ve got to look at with this Forest side.

You probably do think that the Grabban goals this season have been a big reason for everything they’ve achieved. When you’ve got someone scoring goals and you haven’t got someone in behind him, it sums up why they are in the position they are and not in the top two.

So, yes, I do feel that they have always relied on Lewis Grabban.”

The experienced forward has been nursing a knee problem at times this season but he should be involved from the off as the East Midlands outfit look to close the gap on the top two when they face Millwall at the City Ground this evening.
