Norwich City will have to look at Adam Idah's development pathway ahead of their return to the Premier League, with Jon Newsome revealing he doesn't expect the young striker to get many top-flight minutes next season.

Daniel Farke's side have stormed to a second promotion in the space of three seasons and are on the cusp of adding another Championship title to their trophy cabinet.

Teemu Pukki, Emi Buendia, Todd Cantwell and many others have starred in the Championship this season, but it has been a frustrating campaign for Idah, with the 20-year-old forward starting just once in the league and his further 15 appearances all coming from the bench.

As Norwich step up into the Premier League, the likelihood is that their squad will evolve in terms of quality, leaving Idah at risk of falling already further down the pecking order than he already is.

For Newsome, it could well lead to Norwich having a look at how he is developing given he's not going to be a starter at Carrow Road.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, the ex-Norwich man said: “It’s very difficult when you’ve been promoted to the Premier League and you’ve not been given a load of chances in the Championship.

“He’s had a number of substitute appearance, but can you see him going into the Premier League and suddenly becoming a first choice in Norwich City’s starting XI?

“It’s probably doubtful, so then you will have to look – and I’m sure Norwich will – at his development pathway and how to get him as many games as possible.

“It is an interesting one to keep an eye on really.”

Idah, despite limited opportunities in the Championship, has scored twice in Norwich's promotion-winning campaign, as well as taking steps towards establishing himself in the Ireland national team.

Back on the opening day of the 2020/21 season, Idah struck the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town, whilst he was also on the scoresheet as Norwich beat Wycombe Wanderers in late February, which was the perfect response having been sent off in the reverse fixture.

In Norwich's previous campaign in the Premier League, Idah made 12 substitute appearances, whilst also featuring in the FA Cup and League Cup, scoring a hat-trick in the former against Preston North End.
