Jermaine Beckford has tipped his hat to Leeds United as they reportedly enter contract talks with Mateusz Klich, with the former Elland Road forward noting the Polish international’s importance to the Whites.

Leeds have made a major statement this week by getting Kalvin Phillips to commit his long-term future to the club, with attention now turning to others at Elland Road.

Klich is amongst a select group who see their current deals run out at the end of the season, but reports from Football Insider have confirmed Leeds are working on new terms for the 29-year-old.

And, in the eyes of Beckford, Klich is a vital player nowadays under Marcelo Bielsa after 19 goal contributions last season.

“He’s another player that has been vitally important to the Leeds United team,” Beckford told Football League World in an exclusive interview with Chief Editor, Sam Rourke.

“He always seems to put himself in the right place at the right times. He makes very few mistakes and he’s also a very exciting player.

“I think getting him to sign a new deal will only help to boost the confidence around the place that little bit more. That’s like another new signing.”

Klich struck 10 goals last season as the Whites finished third in the Championship, emerging from the shadows under Bielsa after a difficult first year at Elland Road.

He’s not hit the ground running this season in terms of goals, but has one impressive strike to his name from the League Cup thrashing of Salford City.

Yet, he’s started every Championship fixture so far this season, continuing an impressive run of starting every league fixture under Bielsa.
