Luton Town were certainly the surprise package in League One this season, with the Hatters clinching the league title to make it back-to-back promotions in successive years.

One man that has been key to that success and played a pivotal role in Mick Harford's squad is Jack Stacey, who has been somewhat 'Mr Reliable' for the Hatters.

The former Reading man has been deployed as a right-back this season for Luton, and has made the position his own and will be keen to retain his place in the back four in next year's campaign.

In an exclusive interview with Football League World's Jacob Potter, Stacey admitted that he is enjoying the role and is hoping his attacking instincts continue to make him one of the best full-backs going forward.

"It was first when I was at Exeter, almost covering for injuries in that position and then I realised that full-backs aren't like they were 30 years ago when they stood on the halfway line and defend the whole game.

"Especially with the system here, the diamond. Full-backs are so important for the width so to be honest, I didn't see myself converting to that position, but I'm really enjoying it now."

Stacey also felt that winning promotion this season is one of his best achievements in his career to date.

"The fact that we've achieved back-to-back promotion, but personally, to be back at Championship level is massive for me.

"Honestly, as a team I think it adds a bit of the element of unexpected, but we've gone on such a good unbeaten run, to finally get over the line is probably up there with the best."

The 23-year-old issued high-praise to Luton boss, Mick Harford, for the work he did with the side after Nathan Jones departed the club for Stoke City earlier in this year's campaign.

"Mick's probably the only one that could have come in and done the job that he ultimately has done because he had so much respect from the players and he knew us all already.

"He also knew that we were a successful side who didn't need too much changing. Just maybe belief in us in saying that our former manager has gone on to a club in the division above at the time."

"The belief was there and Mick's been brilliant with all the players and getting us playing and he deserves as much credit as everyone else."

Luton have already announced that Graeme Jones will be taking over from Harford next season, where Stacey and his Luton team-mates will be hoping to continue their impressive rise up the Football League in the Championship.
